Central Azucarera de la Carlota Chose Honeywell Controls for Vacuum Pan Automation
Central Azucarera de la Carlota, Inc. (CACI) undertook a program of automating two (2) units of their batch vacuum pans during their last off-milling season. Uniwell supplied and installed Honeywell’s HC900 Hybrid Controller which got excellent marks due to its simplicity and flexibility. Founded 85 years ago, CACI is part of the CADP Group Corporation – a publicly listed sugar investment and management company. It continues to be a key player in a fast evolving industry fueling the national economy. In line with its growth philosophy, expansion and modernization continued to improve milling efficiency through modern instrumentation and automation solutions. Honeywell HC900 provided the plant a cost-effective platform for combining loop and logic controls for level, vacuum pressure and brix monitoring. This controller is ideal for stand-alone processes, skid-mounted systems and other periphery operations in their process facility. Its hybrid control designer, a PC-based software, shortens design time and simplifies control strategy development. These resulted in a total installed cost advantage to Central Azucarera de la Carlota with significant improvement in raw sugar recovery, increased production capacity, reduced engineering and process startup time, and minimal operator supervision while maintaining consistent production performance with cost effective maintenance. “This project exceeded our expectations. Our vacuum pan operators have adapted easily to its operation and product output has been consistent because of the accuracy of brix and level measurements,” says Engr. Nelson Delfin, Project Engineer of CACI.
